Biogeographic distribution

Worldwide G smithii can be found in Okinawa, New Caledonia, Vietnam, Indian Ocean (westward to the western) and Persian Gulf. (Australian Faunal Directory). There are also records of G. smithii in French Polynesian, Mayotte and Red Sea (Encyclopedia of Life).
